Basic Emblems and Awards for Sparks:
Note: Unless otherwise indicated, we’ll describe all emblem and award placement as if you’re wearing the vest (i.e., left side = left side as you’re wearing the vest.)
Sparks Rank Emblems
Sparkies earn a Sparks® emblem by completing the first portion in their handbooks: HangGlider®, WingRunner® and SkyStormer®. Sew these emblems on the upper left side of the Sparks uniform vest below the Sparks emblem. The emblems in the new program are designed to be worn together and to build upon one another. There’s no need to remove the previous year’s emblem before sewing on the current year’s emblem.Sparks Pilot Wings
Sparkies receive a pilot wing when they earn their first achievement jewel in a particular handbook. Pilot wings are green for HangGlider, blue for WingRunner and red for SkyStormer.Achievement Jewels
There are 12 achievement jewels for each handbook with 4 of each color. That’s a total of 36 jewels for all three Sparks handbooks.Red and green jewels are awarded for completing the handbook sections.
Blue jewels are awarded for club attendance. Sparkies receive these at the end of each attendance period if they’ve had no more than one unexcused absence during that period. (Leaders may adjust requirement for Sparkies who have difficulty getting to club for a legitimate reason.)For information on jewel placement for the pilot wings, see the Sparks Uniform Awards page at the end of the handbooks. You can also check the picture of the pilot wings at the end of each jewel achievement segment.
Other Sparks Emblems
Optional church registration numbers (not an award)
Sew these numbers on the lower-left side of the vest. Line up the top edge of the first number about 1½â€³ (3.8 cm) from the left edge of the bottom vest button. Line the top edge of the number with the top edge of the button. Line up each subsequent number so it touches the previous number.Sparks Church Attendance Emblems
Sparkies earn these for church or Sunday school attendance, one emblem per six-month period. That’s two emblems a year. Each club sets its own standards for attendance. Attach these emblems onto the pocket on the lower right side of the vest. Make sure they’re spaced out evenly over the whole pocket. You can position the clock emblems so that they show different times. The order of placement is:
- The first emblem goes on the top center of the pocket below the seam.
- The second emblem goes to the immediate right of the first, leaving a little space between.
- The third goes to the immediate left of the first, leaving a little space. Now you have a line of emblems across the top half of the pocket.
- Emblems four through six create a second line below the first. Place them in the same way as emblems one through three.
Look at the back of the handbooks for more specific information on emblem placement.
Sparks Frequent Flyer Emblem and Pins
Sparkies completing the book review (either by reviewing the handbook itself or by doing the review in the Frequent Flyer cards) receive the Book Review Emblem which is placed under the pilot wings.Sparkies earn the Frequent Flyer pins by completing the Frequent Flyer Extra Credit Cards (workbooks) one pin for each workbook. The workbooks correspond to the three handbooks. Attach these pins to the right side of each review emblem.
Sparks-a-Rama Awards
Sparkies receive these awards if they participate in Sparks-a-Rama™. Sew the emblem on the lower left side of the vest. Place the emblem above the church registration numbers if they’re used.Otherwise center the emblem accordingly. If Sparkies participate in Sparks-a-Rama for more than one year, place the second or third emblem below the previous one.
Adopt-a-Club Emblem
Although designed generally for older clubbers, if Sparkies give to the support of the church’s or club’s Adopt-a-Club®, they may receive this emblem. Sew it above the church registration numbers if they’re used and above any Sparks-a-Rama emblems.Click here for instructions on the various ways to attach the award emblems to Awana club uniforms.
