![]() New to the Awana Store, the Sparks storybook Sparky Bops the Greedy Bug encourages kids to be generous and avoid bad influences. In this vibrantly illustrated tale, a materialistic grasshopper meets his match when Sparky the Firefly stands up against greed. The third in a series of books from Awana President/CEO Jack Eggar is designed to connect parents with children and shape their spiritual character. Where did you get the idea for Sparky Bops the Greedy Bug? Jack: We live in a society that thinks, "It's all about me. Why shouldn't I have everything?" Sparkies today are so impressionable. It's either a godly, loving parent building value systems with them or secularism. We have to constantly go back to our source, the Lord, Who is to be the dominant influence. What surprises will parents find in the Sparks Storybook Series? Jack: Each book begins with a verse. Parents first remind kids of the verse and what it means, and then they read the story. The book ends with questions parents can ask to impart biblical truths. Each book also has creative bug projects. Lots of people have told me, "We made that stuff. The kids love it!" How do you hope parents will use this new story in their homes? Jack: As parents and leaders, we need to exercise our calling and our skills to reach into the hearts of our children spiritually. Even when kids are too young to comprehend language, we can still grow to get better at how we communicate spiritual things. Then, by the time children understand us we'll be doing well. This book is a helping hand. Visit the Awana Store today to order Sparky Bops the Greedy Bug and other fantastic Sparks gifts. Order by 1 p.m. CST on Thursday, December 23 and choose One-Day Shipping to receive your gifts in time for Christmas.
